Antti Paalanen’s destiny as an untethered accordionist came from a happy accident: young Antti walked into the music shop intending to buy an electric guitar, but his attention was caught by the beautiful and fascinating accordion. The was no turning back from there, and for a number of years now, Paalanen has been charming his audiences around the world.
In recent months, Paalanen has become a tremendously popular social media phenomenon with his accordion covers, which include Darude and Rammstein pieces. Antti's Accordion School videos have attracted millions of views. Paalanen took a new leap on his career this spring as he charmed the Finnish audience and international Eurovision fans with his UMK piece 'Takatukka'.
Antti Paalanen’s musical mix has developed naturally: even as a child, he was equally fascinated by the adult education centre's accordion group and Twisted Sister, W.A.S.P. and AC/DC which blew his mind on MusicTV. Along the way, he started combining accordion music with throat singing based on a Mongolian tradition. This is the technique Paalanen uses in his deep, throaty vocals.
