"Nowadays, white is a strong color in my art, deepening different tones. It is especially the color of winter nature and northern harmony, but it is also suitable for depicting mental landscapes. Nature studies and power animals, as well as mandalas and mental landscapes, have often been the subjects of my interpretations. They speak to me with their silence and simplicity.
My constant experimentation with materials, reinforced by the minimalist, light, harmonious expression of recent years, is very evident in both my nature studies and descriptions of mental landscapes. In some paintings, light is emphasized with leaf silver, or genuine stone pigment ties the work to nature or the mental landscape.
The minimalist color tones of the works reflect emotions and images that I have been pondering in my mind for a long time. The whole creates an impression with its simplicity. It brings back memories from somewhere far away, speaks to us with its silence, and deepens our experience of peace."
Marianne Palonen is a member of the Finnish Painters' Union, the Helsinki Artists' Association, the Porvoo Artists' Association, EspooArt ry, and the nationally active Viipuri Artists' Association, which moved its headquarters to Helsinki after the wars.
