Join us in our lantern-making workshop, to create a lantern of togetherness! The lunisolar calendar new year is a widely celebrated festival across numerous cultures and communities around the world, such as Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Regardless of the varying ways of celebration, the spirit of this festival is about getting together with your family and friends, and welcoming the newness in life!

Together we will make paper lanterns and decorate them with objects that represent your wishes for the new year. Feel free to bring any materials from home or use the recycled objects we provide and give them a new life. Create your new year lantern of togetherness in this activity full of joy and sensory play!

P.S. Since 2026 is the year of horses, we’re also giving you the chance to turn your lantern into a little paper horse!

Workshop will be lead by artist duo joka-asia, Lù Chén ja Burak Türköz.

Languages: English, Chinese, and Turkish. You can also get assistance in Finnish from the museum staff.

You can visit the non-stop workshop at any time. For all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults can also participate in the workshop without a child.
