“A Glance at Espoo” poetry competition for seniors 65+ exhibitions
The competition’s winners are announced in Iso Omena library’s poetry event on the 7th of May 2026 at 17:30
Poetry exhibitions are held in Lippulaiva, Iso Omena, Sello, Entresse, Tapiola and Kalajärvi libraries between 4.–23.5.2026
How does Espoo look, smell, sound, or feel like right now? What did Espoo look like in the past? How does one remember Espoo? What kinds of future opportunities does Espoo have to offer? What is it like to live in Espoo? Attendees share their thoughts through poetry.
Almost 100 poems were submitted and 20 of the best were picked by a respected panel of judges to be exhibited in libraries around Espoo. Poems and their authors’ pseudonyms are on display between 4.-23.5.2026 in Lippulaiva, Iso Omena, Sello, Entresse, Tapiola and Kalajärvi libraries.
The competition’s panel was chaired by author Johanna Venho. The other panellists were poet Harri Hertell and writer Sanna Vaara, and the libraries of Espoo were represented by literary artist Inari Mykkänen. In addition, the panel included Erja Tikka, representing Espoo’s Elderly Council, and journalist Sakari Heiskanen and visual artist Jussi Lahtinen.
Once the panel agreed on the 20 poems selected for the poetry exhibitions, a seven-member panel, under Johanna Venho’s leadership, selected three poems to be awarded. Winners will be announced in Iso Omena library’s poetry event on the 7th of May in Matinkylä at 17:30. There are toasts for the 65 first arriving.
