The psychedelic prog band Gong returns to Finland this autumn, celebrating the release of their album Bright Spirit, out earlier this year. Founded in the late 60s by Daevid Allen, the band grew into one of the most distinctive and influential groups of the 70s. With an adventurous blend of rock, jazz, and psychedelia, Gong built a world of its own, where musical freedom and imagination take center stage. For the final album he recorded with Gong, Allen personally assembled the current line-up, expressing his wish that the band continue after him.

The current line-up—formed by Kavus Torabi, Dave Sturt, Fabio Golfetti, Ian East, and Cheb Nettles—has continued the band’s story with uncompromising dedication. The band honors the spirit of the original Gong but primarily looks forward: toward new music and new ideas, with no room for mere nostalgia. The albums by the revamped line-up (Rejoice! I’m Dead! 2016, The Universe Also Collapses 2019, Unending Ascending 2023, and Bright Spirit 2026), along with numerous energetic and visually stunning live shows, are clear proof that Gong remains relevant and adventurous, continuing its inexhaustible exploration of Planet Gong.
