Oittaa cycling event invites the whole family to get moving

A cycling event will be held in the Oittaa outdoor recreation area on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm to celebrate the opening of the new mountain bike route!

At the event, you can try out different sports and get to know the sport and Espoo's diverse conditions. The event is open to everyone and free of charge.

The program is offered by clubs and cycling enthusiasts as well as other outdoor and cycling operators. Check out the detailed program and book your place for the youth mountain bike course and group tours in advance.

You can also easily reach Oittaa by bike or bus number 246 from the center of Espoo.

The event is organized by Visit Espoo and Espoo Liikkuu. The event is part of the National Cycling Week. More information on what happens in Espoo during th National Cycling Week.


Program

Fillarikoulu for 10-13 year olds (organized by Espoo cycling club IK-32)

  • 10-11.30 am, 10-11 year olds
  • 12-13.30 pm, 12-13 year olds

Beginner-friendly introductory rides on the new R2 mountain bike route (organized by Hekuma MTB association)

  • Departures every half hour from 11:00 to 13:00.

The rides are done at a leisurely pace, and the aim is to get to know the route together with experienced guides – not to ride a hard or technically demanding ride. The ride is also suitable for mountain biking beginners, but previous experience is necessary. Registration(external link, opens in a new window).


Group run PK-Gravel half. Departures at 10 am from the event area next to the barn, distance approximately 90 km.

  • Gravel Social Ride: Come and enjoy a gravel group ride in a nice group! We will have a coffee break at Kahvila Palomajä in Paloheinä. The average speed of the ride is expected to be approximately 19-21 km/h. Female gravel riders are warmly welcome to the ride! (Organized by the WMNS Cycling Team BiBi)
  • Men's starts: faster speed group/social ride, slower speed group/social ride

Program between 10am-2pm without prior registration

  • Fun cycling route for the little ones in the Oittaa yard (organizer: Espoo Move)
  • Learn to brake with roller skis! Roller ski braking school nonstop principle, equipment can be borrowed free of charge  (organizer Hiihtocenter)  
  • Test new bike products (Tunturi Oy)  
  • Sisu-kävely – the latest trend in Nordic walking  (organizers Espoon Latu ja Polku ry, Tahko Pihkala -seura ry and Sisuteam) SisuTeam and sports counselor Tuomo Jantunen bring 100 pairs of the first ergonomic walking equipment poles! Sisu Grip poles can be tested on a short trip to the nearby countryside. All participants will participate in a raffle where they can win new Sisu Grip poles and other prizes. Poles are also on sale at "spring prices"
  • Introduction and trial of cycling orienteering (organized by local enthusiasts) Guided tour of the sport! Maps, equipment, instructions and training sites. Possibility to try at your own pace without timing. The tracks are suitable for beginners. Map holders can be borrowed for a small deposit.
  • Cyclocross presentation Finnish champion Antti Kuitto from Espoo will present cyclocross and its recreational opportunities.
  • Trail construction point (organised by the Uusimaa Recreation Area Association UUVI ry) With the Uuvi car that has arrived at the event area, you can see route planning, more sustainable construction and practical skills that have also been used on the new and wonderful R2 route. Jump on the posts of a dumper or grab a screw pile and try what it would be like to be a real trail construction professional!

Adult and children's mountain bikes can be rented from the Oittaa Ski Centre. Also ask about bike maintenance!

Oittaa's diverse outdoor spaces are available:

  • A mountain bike trail over 2 km long in the yard, frisbee golf courses, Angry Birds playground, outdoor gyms, nature trails and barbecue areas.

The presentation area also has information and inspiration about other cycling routes and the promotion of cycling in Espoo.
