Alexander Reichstein’s installation ‘They Were Here’ was born out of the artist’s view that nothing truly disappears without a trace. Figures from the past still wander in the garden, words spoken long ago continue to echo around us, and we can almost hear people’s steps.

Reichstein’s installation brings to life the three-dimensional, drawing-like figures that are always selected according to the site and its history. The delicate, ghost-like figures are at their best in the dark as the UV light makes them glow. Music from the past adds to the atmosphere.

The ‘They Were Here’ project started in 2015, after which the figures have been seen in dozens of compositions in Finland and abroad.

Reichstein’s installation is exhibited at WeeGee as part of the Weekend of Light. Despite the event name, the installation will be on display for over a week, from 6 to 15 February. Visit after 15:00 to see the figures glow in the dark.
