"My works tell the story of the life of trees. The forest has settled down to wait for winter. Trees transfer green dye from their leaves to their stems and roots for winter storage. The deciduous trees turn bright yellow, orange and red. The first frosty night makes the dried leaves drop, and the microbes and insects begin to feast in the soil. Those substances which are held in the leaves are returned to the forest’s nutrient cycle.

Observing the trees, vegetation and animals of the forest has been a great joy for me and a source of aesthetic experiences since I was a child. I studied arts subjects in school and completed a degree in biology at the University of Vilnius in my former home country, Lithuania.

Artistic depiction of the forest also reflects my own inner landscape. The works for this exhibition have been made with the monotype method using leaf material I have collected from the forests of my new home region, Vantaa. The leaves of different tree species create different shapes and moods depending on the season."

The exhibition can be seen during the library opening hours. Welcome!
