Marjo Smolander is a kantele player and singer-songwriter from Rääkkylä. Her music is a fusion of Finno-Ugric folk music aesthetics and Western African rhythms. Strong sound formation, polyrhythms and melancholic strains create catchy, virtuosic musical landscapes.

In 2021, Smolander released her internationally acclaimed solo album Cosmologies. In this concert, she will be performing songs from Cosmologies and newer material, playing kanteles of varying sizes, ranging from 5 to 39 strings. She is particularly known for the Malian-Finnish band SINIMUSO (Folk Music Act of the Year in 2025) and Eve Crazy & Mar Yo, a duo with Senegalese rapper Eve Crazy.

Duration approx. 1 h, incl intermission

The performance will take place in the foyer, where audience capacity is limited (max 120 people). You can secure a spot for the event in advance by registering via the online form no later than the day before the concert (see link above). Registration opens 2 weeks before the performance. Those who have registered in advance must arrive at the concert by 1:15 PM, after which entry will also be granted at the door if space is still available.

Free admission. The seats are filled in order of arrival. Doors to Sello Hall open 30 minutes before the performance. The café is open.
