Ánnámáret (Anna Näkkäjärvi-Länsman) is a Sámi musician and composer, whose music draws from the heritage of her ancestors and the nature of Lapland. She is particularly interested in the interplay between the traditional way of living and the modern world. Anna is also a reindeer herder and a Sámi activist.
Ánnámáret’s home landscapes on the shores of the Arctic Ocean in Nuorgam offer endless inspiration for making music. Released in 2021, “NIEGUID DUOVDAGAT - DREAMSCAPES” was nominated for Best Folk Music record at the Emma Awards. Released in August 2024, her latest album BÁLVVOSBÁIKI reflects her previous work with its diversity, combining ancient instruments, electronic music and video art. The album applies the ancient Sámi worldview to the modern day, asking where are the sacred places of today?
The Ánnámáret ensemble is composed of Ilkka Heinonen on jouhikko (traditional, bowed lyre) and Turkka Inkilä on live electronics, along with video artist Marja Viitahuhta, whose visual elements bring the music to life. Known as an influential interpreter, Ánnámáret has also earned a doctorate for her art.
Duration 1 h
The concert is being held in connection with the celebration of the Sami National Day.
