Formed by singer Mia Simanainen, Quartet Ajaton is an ensemble of cutting edge musicians from a variety of backgrounds who seamlessly weave their talents. The enigmatic sound of the ensemble is probably unlike anything else in the world! The quartet’s new repertoire, on the other hand, contains iconic compositions from our Finnish culture – tangos, Sibelius, folk songs and cattle calls all ring out, dance about and growl. The music smoulders hot and cools, getting hearts pumping.
Stylistically, Quartet Ajaton is a trailblazer, and its ten-year journey will culminate in an album release in 2026. The group’s third long-play album, Fin, emphasises the domestic origin of the music, which is especially apropos for the Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year. As with the ensemble’s previous releases Elixir (Eclipse Music 2016) and Early Music in the Latest Way (Alba Records 2020), rules were made to be broken. The songs are sung in Finnish, Swedish and English.
