In the Splash! exhibition, we dive into the stream with Otis the Otter and get to know the people and animals that have lived side by side along the river through generations. Also on display are Pro Espoonjoki ry’s photographs of the changing landscape along the river.

The river Glimsinjoki begins at lake Pitkäjärvi and flows into the now dried-up lake Kirkkojärvi, where it becomes the river Espoonjoki then flows on all the way to the sea. The exhibition “Splash! A dip in the story of the river Glimsinjoki” tells about the river’s rich nature and long history which has been influenced by people through the years.

The nationally valuable stream is home to many animals, such as the trout that come to spawn there and the dipper that feeds in its unfrozen stretches in winter. The forests along the river also provide shelter and passage for terrestrial animals.

The river has also played an important role for the people who have lived along its banks. In the fields along the riverside, grain grew well and the mills ran on the power of the water, grinding the grain into flour. For people of today, this wonderful beauty spot is a great place for excursions. The Glimsinjoki nature trail begins at Träskanda park and ends at the Glims Farmstead Museum.

The Splash! exhibition produced for the whole family by KAMU Espoo City Museum has something for people of all ages to explore. Children can go fishing, see how an otter descends a hill or colour pictures of the river’s inhabitants. For those interested in history, old photographs and maps tell the story of the river's past.

The exhibition also includes photographs of changing landscapes. Over the past 20 years, Pro Espoonjoki ry has photographed the landscapes around the river Espoonjoki and its two tributaries, Glimsinjoki and Glomsinjoki.

Nature House Villa Elfvik is open Mon–Fri 9:00–15:00 and on Sundays and 1.1.2026, 10:00–16:00. Closed on Saturdays, 24–28.12.2025 and 6.1.2026.
