Rosti and Freeman together for 35 years! CORAL ANNIVERSARY!

Menneisyyden Vangit was a party band right from its start in 1991 – but who would’ve guessed that the party was going to last for 35 years? They played their first official gig in Helsinki in March 1991, and thus began a beloved tale of Finnish music. In 2026, the band will celebrate its 35th anniversary, with the anniversary year kicking off in March 2026.

Menneisyyden Vangit was born when Virve Rosti and Freeman met by accident and decided to join forces. The result was a decades-long journey, four albums and countless gigs all over Finland.

Virve Rosti was already casting a spell over Finnish audiences at the tender age of 16 and has since sung her way into music history with hits such as Sata salamaa, Kun Chicago kuoli and Oon voimissain. Freeman, on the other hand, is the man behind the classics, such as Ajetaan tandemilla, Osuuskaupan Jane and Kaksi lensi yli käenpesän. These and many other of the band’s songs connect generations and still get the audience to sing along.

“If a Finnish, middle-aged pop group wants to celebrate their long career in some way, we could do that on an impressive ABC gas station tour. Coffee for everyone and let the guitars rip.

But, Menneisyyden Vangit wants to do something else. We’re going to celebrate our 35 years all year long in 2026!

Virve Rosti, Freeman and Menneisyyden Vangit (Well, to you guys, just Menkkarit)
