Astro Pi Mission Zero is a beginner‑friendly programming challenge where anyone under the age of 19 can write a simple Python program that will be run on the International Space Station (ISS) on an Astro Pi computer.
Mission Zero gives young people the chance to have their code executed in space! The challenge is to write a simple program that reads colour and brightness data from the Astro Pi computer’s sensor aboard the ISS.
Simply put, you get to create your own artwork and send it to space — to the International Space Station, where astronauts can admire the image you’ve made.
The recommended age is 9–15, up to a maximum of 19 years old, and no previous coding experience is required.
The workshop is carried out in groups of 1–4 participants, about 45 minutes per group. You will receive proof of the image sent to space, but it will reach the library only in the summer after travelling to space and back!
