Rising to rocket-like popularity with their recent track Seppo Räty Berghainissa, Business City doesn’t apologize – instead, they fuse Lahti’s signature “fuck the world” attitude with ruthless techno barrages. At times they flirt with 1980s Finnish schlager, such as in their version of Nisa Soraya’s Anna rakas raju hetki – also once covered by Kikka. Speed, pills, meat-in-a-cup, Berlin’s techno caves, early Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy, an industrial edge, and uniquely Finnish suburban banter – that’s what Business City is made of.

Sold-out clubs, hundreds of thousands of streams, the Audience Award at the Oulu Music Video Festival, and one of the most talked-about gigs at Flow Festival 2023. Their uncompromising style is further underlined by the fact that album releases are hidden around the Helsinki area as geocaches for fans to discover. Business City’s success might be impossible to explain to anyone but Finns – they belong in the same continuum as Notkea Rotta, Sleepy Sleepers, and even Juice Leskinen. It’s hard to be both street-credible and coat your songs with humor, but for Business City, it all comes naturally. Even fans of heavier rock have recognized the band’s genius – helped along by their version of the industrial band Itä-Saksa’s track Viva Las Palmas.
