This warm-hearted and visually beautiful play introduces audiences to the world of the Kalevala and the unique qualities of the bee. Even our ancestors understood the bee's importance in maintaining nature’s balance. It is the smallest hero of our national epic – the honey-winged one, the favorite bird, and the king of flowers…
The performance takes the audience on a buzzing adventure with the little insect. The young and wild Lemminkäinen has been injured, and his mother turns to the bee for help. The bee is given the task of finding a healing balm – the "nectar of life" – to restore Lemminkäinen. Joining the journey is storyteller Arhippa Kieleväinen, who wishes to witness the events firsthand.
The tale is told through clowning, storytelling, puppetry, and mime. At the heart of the play lies a beautiful message: even the smallest creature can be a great hero, and good deeds are always rewarded. In 2024, the Kalevala was awarded the European Heritage Label – this epic remains timeless and is an essential part of our living cultural heritage!
