Step off the footpath and lose yourself in Forest Cover.

Inspired by Finnish folklore and the mystery of disappearing into the forest, Forest Cover invites you to reflect on your relationship with nature and the small gestures that can strengthen it.

From August 17, 2025, a decomposing installation by land artist Wiebke Pandikow will be found alongside the ancient potholes (hiidenkirnut) of Espoo Central Park. Created using a stone-age thread-looping technique, mostly referred to as nålebinding or neulakinnastekniikka in Finnish, the piece is designed to gradually decay over several months, eventually leaving no trace. In contrast, the potholes, shaped by the forces of the ice age, may continue to mark the landscape for thousands more years to come.

What are the traces we leave in nature and the legacy we create for future generations?

Under the Forest Cover, visitors can explore our plain language forest library, contribute small additions of their own to the installation, make a bark boat to float in a pothole or simply experience the forest's sense of altered time within the Forest Cover.

A representative of Selkokulttuuri ry will be present near the installation on Sunday, August 17, from 1 PM to 3 PM to answer any questions.
