Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L is a Tampere-based quartet – the hottest and loudest act in the Finnish folk-rock sky today. The band was formed after jouhikko virtuoso and singer-songwriter Pekko Käppi released his album Rammat jumalat in 2013. Since then, the group has released five albums to wide acclaim and toured the globe extensively. A respected British music publication once described them as “The T. Rex of Finland.”

In Käppi’s musical mortar, airy folk expression mixes with the earthy roots of blues and the shimmer of psychedelic rock. The finely ground result is fascinating folk music — molded into the shape of accessibly inventive popular music. On stage, the band’s sound can grow almost hypnotic, as their gently flowing folk playing transforms, seemingly unnoticed, into a fierce, trance-like rock surge — like a wild dog chasing its own tail.

Stories bursting with northern gothic imagery and mosaic-like fragments of existence blend seamlessly with the band’s organic energy — an unstoppable force that makes the little bird of your soul dance.

The band’s sixth album, Oli kerran ryytimaassa..., was released in 2025.
