Instead of Christmas decorations, Juurakko’s Yhdeksäs talvi concert features snow and ice in their different forms. Wintry songs brighten up the Northern darkness, from the first snow to the blazing northern lights of midwinter, all the way to the melting ice of spring. Juurakko takes its listeners over windy fields and through cities filled with Christmas lights, all the way north to the ice-capped fells. “Our inspiration is in the old stories of the Polar Night, the countless words that describe snow and ice. We ponder the staying power of winter stories if the cold season were to disappear,” Juurakko describes their concert.

Yhdeksäs talvi sings praises of the darkness of polar night, encouraging the audience to enjoy glühwein and their friendships and takes them on a journey from autumn to spring. Concerns about global warming are not left by the wayside, which are instead presented in Juurakko’s energetic style. Juurakko combines roots music and powerful storytelling, cross-breeding Finnish blues vocal and musical instrumentation with a lively skiffle attitude.
