Come and be introduced to the delightful manor life and the Espoo Manor!

At KAMU’s exhibition The Manor on the King´s Road, you can learn about life at the manor all the way from the 16th to the 21 century. The manor was built by the order of King Gustav Vasa of Sweden, who wished to establish a king’s manor in 1556. Now, you can experience the rich history through the people who lived at the manor. The main building of the manor and the surrounding park it have been a stage for how nobility and gentlefolk used to live. What did the ballroom of the manor look like?

You can immerse yourself in the life at the manor by listening, viewing, trying things out and playing. The exhibition features an animated map table application with a touch screen as well as videos of what people did at the manor, such as shoemaking. You can also find out what fabrics were used to make clothing. Children can ride a hobby horse through the entire exhibition.

At Espoo Manor, the life of individual people was intertwined with the political and economic events of the nation. Those who lived on the manor grounds experienced wars, the industrial revolution and the period of Finland gaining independence, as well as the times leading up to Swedish and Russian rule. The manor has a long and illustrious history.
The Espoo Manor grounds also have a farm and an industrial facility that comprised a sawmill and mill, for example. A wide range of professionals of various fields have worked at the manor.

The exhibition content is based on solid research data, which has also been compiled into a visually impressive book. The book is available for purchase at KAMU, Glims Farmstead Museum and EMMA shop. The book is available in Finnish and Swedish.

Plenty of activities and guided tours will be organised in connection to the exhibition.
