Joseph Haydn: The Seasons oratorio
In Haydn’s The Seasons, humans and nature are in harmony, but human actions are also viewed critically. The annual cycle forms the backdrop for a contemplation of the lives of ordinary people and of tiny creatures such as quail, grasshoppers and frogs. The world rests on the labour of honest people, and the divine order provides for nothing more than the relationship between humans and nature. Matthew Halls, newly appointed artistic director of the Tampere Philharmonic, has earned praise for his period-informed performances of early music.
The concert forms part of the programme of the Nature Festival.
Pre-concert talk at 18.00–18.30.
