Espoo Master Plan 2060 has begun and its goals were approved by the City Board in March 2023. Preparation of a draft master plan is currently ongoing. The master plan is a general plan of land use for the whole city which predicts city development in the coming decades. The master plan pieces together the various functions of the community, such as housing, services, jobs and recreational areas and their locations.

During the master plan process, designers gather multidisciplinary information through various surveys as well as discussions with the residents, stakeholders and experts from various fields. The city is designed for its residents – current and future ones – as well as other actors in Espoo.

What is it all about?

· discuss and agree on the direction of the city’s development
· predict, prepare for and influence the future
· respond to the pressure to change and control change
· secure natural environment values
· respond to challenges brought about by climate change

The district plan involves extensive cooperation and coordination of different perspectives.

· The designers of the master plan gather information through various surveys as well as discussions with the residents, stakeholders and experts from various fields.
· Each Espoo resident has the opportunity to participate in the master plan discussion.
· Elected officials will decide how to develop Espoo and the different areas of the city.
