Franz Schubert: ‘Great’ Symphony in C major D 944
Finish off your working day with a dive into one of the greatest symphonies of all time! Schubert’s ‘Great’ Symphony in C major derives its epithet from its epic proportions. The composer did not live to see the work hailed as a masterpiece. While described by Schumann as being of “heavenly length”, the ‘Great’ Symphony does not seem excessively long to us today, clocking in at less than one hour. It is more like a happy journey through melodic landscapes than a symphonic struggle.
Scheduled in the early evening on Fridays, our After Work concerts offer a relaxing start to the weekend. Each concert lasts about one hour without an interval and includes the conductor talking about the works performed. You are also welcome to enjoy a cup or glass of something at Tapiola Hall. Come as you are!
