The Ring of Fire and Love by Outi Tarkiainen conflates the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean, a solar eclipse and the birth of a child into a single musical miracle. Alexander Zemlinsky was one of the mediators in the transition to Viennese modernism: his Chamber Concerto, an arrangement of his Clarinet Trio, ventures forth from Brahms towards the great unknown. Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto is a Romantic classic, with a perfect blend of poetry and virtuoso flair.
