Tapiola Sinfonietta: CITY OF LIGHTS - Season Concert
Corinna Niemeyer, conductor
Jean Rondeau, harpsichord
Albert Roussel: Petite Suite op. 39
Henri Dutilleux: Mystère de l’instant
Francis Poulenc: Concerto champêtre (‘Rural Concerto’)
Our three-concert tour of Paris ends with the voices of three French composers. French music has always been characterised by skill, rationality and enjoyment of details but also a sensitivity to the mysteries of life.
Henri Dutilleux seized the ‘mystery of the moment’ on an evening walk in the Loire valley, while Francis Poulenc’s ‘rural concerto’ is set only just outside Paris. Dutilleux’s work includes the scintillating cimbalom for added sparkle. Poulenc’s work is a concerto for harpsichord, dedicated to the pioneering champion of the modern harpsichord, Wanda Landowska. Albert Roussel’s Petite Suite unveils its mystery in its final movement, a masked ball.

This concert is part of Tapiola Sinfonietta´s Paris Festival that takes place between 30 September - 14 October.
There has been music-making under the skies of Paris for at least a thousand years – in churches and salons, on the streets and in bars. In a festival of three concerts, the Tapiola Sinfonietta transports audiences to the banks of the Seine, a source of inspiration for composers both French and foreign.
