Reading companion animals at Espoo City Library
Several reading companion animals visit branches of the Espoo City Library to encourage insecure readers to read. Most of these companions are reading dogs, but there are also reading cats and bunnies. The reading companion animals are part of the library’s efforts to inspire readers, especially children. During a session, you can read aloud to the animal at your own pace, while the animal listens calmly.
Many find it easier to read to an animal than to a person. Animals never judge or point out mistakes. In this safe and supportive environment, they can build both their reading skills and self-confidence.
