In addition to the services provided by Espoo City Library and Helmet Library, people in Espoo have access to a wide range of national and joint library services online.
Finna.fi
Finna.fi(external link, opens in a new window) is everyday discoveries, opportunities for learning and sources of research.
Finna.fi is a search service that collects material from hundreds of Finnish organisations under one roof. Using versatile search functions, you can easily access millions of items, free of charge. It is a search service for finding fascinating material from archives, libraries, museums and other organisations.
The National Library of Finland maintains and develops the Finna service continuously in cooperation with archives, libraries, museums and other partners.
Kirjasampo and Sivupiiri
Kirjasampo(external link, opens in a new window) is an online literature service provided by Finnish libraries. Sivupiiri(external link, opens in a new window) is a section of Kirjasampo that presents children's and young adult literature. The service is available in Finnish and Swedish.
Kirjasampo was developed specifically for fiction, but now also offers a limited selection of non-fiction. The information describing the works in Kirjasampo is more comprehensive than that usually found in library databases or other similar services, especially for older literature.
Ask a Librarian
The Ask a Librarian service(external link, opens in a new window) is the free online reference service of the Finnish libraries. There are more than 90 libraries, both public and special libraries, answering your questions. We answer your questions within three working days. We’ll send the answer to your email, so please double-check the address.
Library Channel – Library WebTV
In Library Channel (Kirjastokaista)(external link, opens in a new window) you will find videos about books, authors and libraries as well as its services. Library Channel participates in advancing reading, promoting and marketing the library’s services and current themes with its videos. In addition, Library Channel acts as an educational channel, e.g. for library professionals and students.
Libraries.fi
Libraries.fi(external link, opens in a new window) is part of the Kirjastot.fi entity. Kirjastot.fi a professional library service and a web library that provides access to Finnish Library Online Services under one user interface. Kirjastot.fi is produced in cooperation by Finnish libraries.
The Finnish, Swedish and English language sites are portals with access to resources on literature, information retrieval, music and libraries. Kirjastot.fi is also a platform offering interactive web services, library television and radio as well as a news service for the use of library professionals.
Accessibility Library Celia
Accessibility Library Celia(external link, opens in a new window) is a national library for accessible literature and publishing in Finland, working toward equality in reading and learning. Celia produces and distributes literature in accessible formats, such as talking books and braille books, together with public libraries and publishers.
Celia's books are available to anyone who finds it difficult to read a normal book because of a dyslexia, illness, disability or similar reason. If you have a print-disability and need accessible media, please contact your local library or school to register for Celia’s services.
Viittomakielinen kirjasto (The Sign Language Library)
Viittomakielinen kirjasto (The Sign Language Library)(external link, opens in a new window) is an online library that brings together video material in Finnish and Finnish-Swedish sign language. The library serves all sign language users and anyone interested in sign language. Particular focus has been placed on children.
