There are about 360 students in our school. Our school has a natural science-mathematical emphasis that students can apply for from the third grade onwards. Our school has been involved in the local school pilot project and with the principle of inclusion, special education students study more and more integrated in general education. Our school also implements strength-based pedagogy, which guides us to notice the strengths and successes of the students.
Almost half of our school's students do not speak Finnish as their mother tongue. Some of our students have lived in Finland for less than a year and have come from conflict areas. We have two preparatory education groups, where newly arrived students and children who are not proficient in Finnish study. Many of our students come to school from two different homes, many of their guardians are unemployed. On the other hand, people come to study with us from other parts of Espoo because of the natural science-mathematical emphasis. The students of the mathematic-natural science-oriented education includes both Finnish as their mother tongue and Finnish as a second language speakers. These learners are selected for the upwardly differentiated group through entrance exams. Our school also has a considerable number of special and intensified support students in general education groups and small groups.
Meritori has a history of working in international projects, both welcoming groups to visit and going abroad ourselves. There are about 10 visiting groups in Meritori every year. The last big Erasmus+ project that was done considered emphasised STEM teaching to all classes. We also take part in national projects such as a global-education project in 2022-2023. A new literature Erasmus+ project starts in our school during the 2024 school year.
