Student welfare

Student welfare supports pupils’ and students’ learning and well-being in the daily life of schools and educational institutions. Student welfare also promotes the cooperation between parents and schools and educational institutions. All people working in the school and educational institution community are entitled to student welfare.

Student welfare refers to the promotion and maintenance of pupils’ and students’ efficient learning, good mental and physical health and social well-being. It also refers to activities in pre-primary education and school and educational institution communities that improve the conditions for them. Students are entitled to the free student welfare necessary for participating in the education.

Student welfare is implemented  as the educational system’s and the wellbeing services county’s planned cooperation with the students and their guardians and, if necessary, other cooperation partners. Student welfare is primarily preventive communal work. Communal student welfare is the shared duty of all professionals working in pre-primary education and in the school and educational institution community. In addition, students are entitled to student welfare services, which include school health care and the services of school social workers and psychologists.

At the start of 2023, the responsibility for providing student welfare services transferred to the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.
