Travel sustainably to events with the HSL event ticket
The City of Espoo is committed to promoting sustainable development solutions. Transport accounts for about one third of emissions and, to reduce them, the city wants to support more sustainable mobility with the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority’s (HSL) event ticket concept.
The City of Espoo’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development organised a Vision Workshop in November 2024, inviting businesses to solve the challenges faced by the city. The event was part of the Innovation Challenge Engine for Cities project.
The event attracted over 40 participants. All registrants were offered HSL’s three-zone ticket for 24 hours, allowing them to arrive at the event sustainably by public transport. Around 25% of the participants made use of the HSL event ticket and HSL charged for the tickets according to the journeys made.
“We want to make sustainable solutions as easy as possible, which is why we wanted to offer this opportunity to the participants,” says Mari Päätalo, Project Manager of the Innovation Challenge Engine for Cities project. “We encourage all event organisers to offer public transport tickets as part of their event arrangements.”
The idea is to make the event ticket a permanent practice at the events organised by the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development to the greatest extent possible.
The Innovation Challenge Engine for Cities project is implemented in cooperation with the City of Vantaa. The project develops solutions to the challenges of sustainable urban development in cooperation with companies, RDI actors and universities.
