This article series presents cases of innovations built here in Espoo that strive for a better tomorrow for all.

To make sure we take care of democracy and human rights in the digital era, we developed together with the city of Turku an information secure way to handle all the data that municipalities gather, including often very sensitive personal data. Good and secure information management cannot perhaps be seen from the citizen’s level, but actions include the development of information security and data protection expertise, improved information utilization and information management processes, and harmonized interpretations and guidelines of legislation, which has all been shared with all municipalities in Finland.

Espoo now has more data security contacts within the city organization than before and a service designer and lawyer worked together to ensure all materials are easy to use. The project end event had over 240 participants from all around the country.
