The Hanikka nature trail twists and turns for five kilometres in a forest, on rocks and the seashore partly on idyllic duckboards.

The varied terrain makes the route interesting: following the trail, it is possible to explore beautiful scenery, the Bronze Age burial cairns in Sundsberget and rocks formed by the Ice Age.

The route also takes a turn along the southern shore of Kaitalahti, known as a diverse wetland with birds. At the end of the peninsula, birdwatchers can find the Hanikka bird-watching tower, where it is possible to observe waterfowl, such as great crested grebes and common coots, especially in the springtime.

The route, which goes through Suinonsalmi, Kaitalahti and Soukansalmi, is marked with yellow trail signs, and there are noticeboards along the way to give more information about the area’s nature and history.

It is worth stopping, for example, for a picnic on Kasavuori hill, where the most majestic scenery in Espoo opens up in front of you. The trail can be reached from the directions of Soukansalmi or Kasavuorenrinne.
