A property manager is responsible for the functioning of a property. In addition to taking care of building services, safety, and outdoor areas, the job also includes customer service.  According to Daniel Malm, who works as a property manager for the Premises Department, the best aspects of his job  are its flexibility and the opportunities for professional development.  “I appreciate my patient and inspiring work community; everyone is treated with respect, and support is always available,” Malm says.

Malm answered some questions about his job for the readers of Espoo Magazine.

What kind of work does a property manager do?
As a property manager, I take care of the building services of properties, such as the maintenance of heating, water and ventilation systems. They must operate in a planned, cost-effective and ecologically sustainable manner.I am also responsible for, among other things, the monitoring of building automation systems, various minor repairs, as well as the maintenance and safety of yards and green areas.

How does your work make the everyday life of residents easier?
One of my most important tasks is to ensure the safety of children and other users of the property. In winter, for example, I come early in the morning to remove the snow and spread grit on the walkways, if necessary.

What kind of feedback about your work do you receive from Espoo residents?
I mainly work in two schools and two day care centres. The users of the premises are often present when I perform my tasks. My work also includes customer service since, as a property manager, I am usually the first to answer questions about the property. In addition, I hear a lot of people’s wishes and thanks.
