My Espoo on the Map
This article series presents cases of innovations built here in Espoo that strive for a better tomorrow for all.
In the My Espoo on the Map survey, Espoo residents shared what their city looks and feels like in their everyday lives. The survey was designed and conducted on close cooperation with the Aalto University in 2020 and a total of 6,000 residents answered making over 70,000 entries and comments on the map. More than 2,400 young people, mainly 6th and 9th graders, responded to the survey, which was tailored for children and young people.
Along the years the data has been analysed and reported in scientific publications. In addition to this, the results will also be shared with city planners, so that the experience-based information can influence planning decisions and more people in Espoo can have their voices heard. The material has especially been used while preparing the Espoo 2060 Development Plan. Furthermore, the data is available to the city organization, so that it can be used e.g. in the planning of various services and published as open data.
The survey will be repeated every four years, providing exceptional long term data on how Espoo inhabitants experience and value their living environment in the growing and developing city.
