This article series presents cases of innovations built here in Espoo that strive for a better tomorrow for all.

EriCa is a green chemistry park set to be completed in Espoo by 2025. It’s set apart by its industry-driven collaboration, bringing together international companies, research institutions, and ambitious startups to foster innovation and knowledge exchange in sustainable chemistry facilitated by the City of Espoo and the Enter Espoo services. The park has achieved a BREEAM rating of Very Good for its planning phase, with full certification expected upon completion. BREEAM is the leading sustainability assessment method used to masterplan projects, infrastructure and buildings.

EriCa is part of the broader Finnoo area development (2022–2030), envisioned as a leader in sustainable urban construction and a key node along Finland’s Green Line, the leading green transition hub. The Green Line connects innovation, business, and knowledge centers along a metro route from Helsinki to key districts in Espoo, integrating international chemical, circular economy, and clean technology companies, startups, accelerators, researchers, educational institutions, and investors.

EriCa and the Green Line promote Espoo's goal to position Finland as a world-class center for clean technology, attracting both domestic and foreign investment. Green Line is also part of regional cooperation with Uusimaa Circular Valley, boosting the wider economy, and is connected to the national circular economy Green Deal, aiming for voluntary commitments to achieve circular economy goals by 2035.
