Fun nature activities in Oittaa on Espoo Day
Espoon Latu ja Polku ry is organising an active Espoo Day event in Oittaa, focusing on spending time together outdoors.
Espoon Latu ja Polku is an active local association of Suomen Latu – the Outdoor Association of Finland, with approximately 2,600 members from Espoo.
The association offers nature activities, family activities, company for spending time outdoors, guidance and equipment on loan. The range of sports includes Nordic walking, walking, cycling, mountain biking and disc golf as well as snowshoeing and skiing in winter. The association also participates in the training and emergency missions of the Voluntary Rescue Service Vapepa.
On Espoo Day, the association will organise a feel-good outdoor event in Oittaa, where people can hike on a nature trail, play exercise ball golf and participate in an insect safari.
“Forest walks are suitable for everyone, and exercise ball golf is played with teams of two. On the insect safari, participants collect insects and get to know them under the guidance of an expert,” says Harri Turpeinen from Espoon Latu ja Polku ry.
On Espoo Day in Oittaa, there will be plenty of activities from Saturday afternoon to evening, and the TV personality Mikko “Peltsi” Peltola will also attend the event.
You can sign up for the activities at the information desk in the event area, where you can also find an outdoor restaurant. Approximately one thousand visitors are expected to attend.
Participants in the Saturday evening campfire event get to enjoy the dusk atmosphere. Speakers at the event include Kai Mykkänen, Mayor of Espoo, and Sari Multala, Minister of Climate and the Environment.
The Espoo Day outdoor event is part of the Metsähotelli Oittaa event, organised in line with Suomen Latu’s Sleep a Night Outdoors concept. Places for the event have been reserved in advance.
“Approximately 450 people get to sleep the night between Saturday and Sunday in hammocks, family tents and tree tents, all set up by volunteers for the visitors,” says Turpeinen.
