A couple of hours’ scout camp

The scout troop Wild Eagles is organising an outdoor event in the area around Henttaa Village House on Espoo Day.
The event will feature a scout camp-like atmosphere with tents and a campfire.
“There will be a trail for visitors with checkpoints where they can test their knowledge about nature and learn about plants and birds. You can also do various crafts, rope and string work, and learn more about scouting,” says Timo Muttonen, Scoutmaster of the Wild Eagles troop.
Wild Eagles, originally named Olarin Eräkotkat, was founded back in 1961.
“Ten years ago, we changed our operating language to English so that we can offer scouting activities to foreign children and young people living in Finland. We are the only English-speaking troop in Finland,” says Muttonen, who has been a scout for 57 years.
“All girls and boys over the age of 7 can participate in our activities, including Finnish speakers, as long as they have a sufficient command of English and their parents understand information provided in English. We currently have exactly one hundred members.”
The Espoo Day event will be held in English, but Finnish speakers will also be able to enjoy the activities. There will be coffee, juice and sweet buns as well as marshmallows for roasting over the campfire.
The best way to get to the Village House is by bus number 133.
“Everyone is welcome to the event – including adults, who can also try out the crafts. The event will take place even if it rains.”
