What are you studying?

I am in my fourth year of the Master’s Programme in Digital Media and Communications at the University of Vaasa.

What does your internship involve? What are your tasks?

I am a communications intern at the City Planning Department.

My tasks have included writing news articles and press releases, as well as updating the website. There is always a lot happening in city planning and plenty to communicate about. I have also produced social media content. For example, I helped create videos about the Master Plan 2060 for social media. I have also assisted at residents’ evenings related to the master plan.

What have you learned?

I have learned a ton of things. My writing skills have improved significantly, and I have learned how to summarise and write accessible content. When communicating to such a wide audience as all the residents of Espoo, you have to be able to explain complex issues clearly. I have also strengthened my working life skills, such as managing routines, organising my work, and scheduling. I was not that familiar with city planning before coming here. Now I find it surprisingly diverse and interesting.

What has been the best part of your internship?

My wonderful team! I have been warmly welcomed. Interns are included in the group, and you really feel like part of the team here.

If you could name a street in Espoo, what would you name it?

Innovaatiotie (Innovation Road) because many new solutions to today’s challenges are being developed in Espoo.
