This article series presents cases of innovations built here in Espoo that strive for a better tomorrow for all.

Improving communication between guardians and day care centers is fundamental for the holistic development of children, fostering trust and collaboration, and creating a safe, nurturing environment that supports both children and their families. A system was developed to simplify administrative processes based on the best practices of Espoo, Tampere, Turku and Oulu who participated in creating the eVaka platform. Developed as an open-source system, it is available free of charge to all municipalities, with updates provided at no cost. This system helps large cities save hundreds of thousands of euros annually in license fees. Currently the third version is being developed and the success and lessons from the eVaka project offer valuable insights for other public sector information system initiatives.
