Accessibility in construction
Espoo designs, maintains and builds an accessible environment. Accessibility is taken into account in land use planning, new public buildings, renovation projects and public areas. Accessibility is part of the planning work in all aspects of construction.
The main designer of a building project is responsible for ensuring that the plans meet the requirements of the Government Decree on Accessibility of Buildings of the Land Use and Building Act. The main drawings and yard plan must indicate the structural solutions and assistive devices according to the intended use (see links to the accessibility planning and inspection forms).
In addition, in the case of public buildings and spaces, a separate preliminary consultation and accessibility assessment is required at the building permit stage. Implementation of accessibility according to the plan is ensured during the site visit before the building is commissioned (see Espoo instructions for accessible construction).
