Employment and internship opportunities in libraries

Espoo City Library recruits permanent, substitute and summer employees as well as jobseekers entitled to pay subsidy or obligation-based employment. You may also be able to complete your work try-out, apprenticeship, training agreement period, or work experience period (TET) in a library. You can find application instructions for different types of positions below.

Espoo City Library has a centralised recruitment system. Do not send applications directly to the libraries’ email addresses (with the exception of TET periods).

We always interview candidates before making any recruitment decisions. Candidates are selected for interviews based on their applications.

We respond to emails concerning work try-out and non-military service positions within seven working days. The application period for each vacancy posted on the Kuntarekry website is specified in the job posting.

Work try-out

Are you interested in going back to work? Read about the services offered by the City of Espoo and find out if you are eligible for a work try-out. Make sure you are eligible before contacting the library.

During a work try-out, you will learn the basics of library work. A work try-out may be a good option if you have not worked for a long time or want to see how you can cope at work.

In libraries, work try-out participants usually handle organisational tasks. Depending on your agreement, your duties may also include customer service.  Work try-out participants usually work six-hours days. Depending on your agreement, the work may include evening and weekend shifts. You will be familiarised with your duties at the start of your employment. The duties require a fair command of the Finnish language.

There are only a limited number of work try-out positions available in the largest libraries. We will interview the most suitable candidates, who are selected based on their applications. To apply for a work try-out position, send a short application to tyokokeilu.kirjasto@espoo.fi. In your application, explain why you want to complete your work try-out in a library and describe your skills and work experience. We respond to emails concerning work try-out positions within seven working days.
