Come and do your part for our hometown’s environment! The City of Espoo offers Espoo-based companies and communities an opportunity to keep their local area clean, for example by picking litter, raking leaves, painting fences or removing harmful invasive species. An environmental clean-up event can be organised as a wellbeing at work (tyhy) activity by schools, classes, organisations or companies.

The clean-up station (Talkoolaituri in Finnish) is specifically designed for communities, schools, businesses and residents in Espoo who want to work together to keep their neighbourhood clean and beautiful. It is an easy and convenient way to offer residents the necessary tools. The station brings together local residents, fostering a sense of community and environmental responsibility.
Rubbish bags and litter grippers
The clean-up station is located within the city, in a mutually agreed location. The station provides rubbish bags and litter grippers that you can borrow. They make it easy for residents to collect litter in the area. The station also serves as a reminder of how important it is to care for the cleanliness of the environment.
Responsibilities
The local community is responsible for maintaining the station. Community representatives notify the city about any issues related to the station, such as supply needs and maintenance. The City of Espoo is responsible for providing clean-up supplies and making necessary repairs.
Residents are responsible for properly handling and disposing of litter.
How to get a clean-up station for your neighbourhood
The application period to become a volunteer clean-up station coordinator was from 1 April to 31 May 2025. A total of five clean-up stations were available and will be delivered to the selected areas during autumn 2025.

Every year, in early August, a traditional landscape maintenance event suitable for the whole family is organised at the Laajalahti nature reserve. Residents get to participate in haymaking, as the pre-cut hay is stacked on hay poles in the local meadow. Participants are served a soup lunch and coffee at the Nature House Villa Elfvik’s café.
The event is jointly organised by the City of Espoo and Parks & Wildlife Finland, which is part of Metsähallitus. Registration starts at the beginning of the summer. Read more: Nature House Villa Elfvik
