Accessibility
The Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora is located at Järvenperäntie 1–3. Aurora consists of three buildings surrounding a large, sloping yard: Meijeri, Taidetalo and Tilanhoitajantalo (office building). In the middle of the yard, there is a rocky area with plants (ø10 m[SA1] [LT2] , covered with snow in winter).
Cars are not allowed in the yard, with the exception of those transporting visitors with a physical disability or visual impairment or delivering goods to the doors of the buildings. These cars must enter the area through the main gate on Järvenperäntie and take special caution. After drop-off, the car must be moved to the official parking area at Träskändanristi 4, a short walking distance from the yard of the cultural centre. The route is sloping and uneven, with additional obstacles in the winter due to piles of snow and ploughed snowbanks.
Accessibility: The Meijeri building is accessible. Meijeri has a ticket sales point, and the payment terminal is at a height of one metre. The office is located in the middle building, Tilanhoitajantalo.
Strollers and prams can be parked in the yard.
Guide dogs are welcome to Aurora.
Arrival and parking: There are 2 accessible parking spaces near Aurora’s main gate. The parking spaces are less than 3.6 metres wide. There is a flat and wide route from the parking spaces to the entrance of Meijeri and Tilanhoitajantalo and a sloping route to Taidetalo and Galleria.

Route to the building: The route from the accessible parking spaces to the main entrance of Meijeri is flat and wide but poorly illuminated during the dark season. The distance to the entrance is over 10 metres. Taxis can drop off customers with disabilities in front of Meijeri’s main door, accessible via 4 steps or a ramp less than 6 metres long. The ramp has handrails on both sides. There is 1 m2 landing by the front door.
Entrance: For wheelchair access, the second door of the double doors must also be opened. The door latch is at a height of 180 cm. Inside, there is a small hallway and a lobby with plenty of coat racks. Near the front door, on the right, there is a door that leads directly into the hall. When there are performances, visitors enter the hall via the double door in the lobby. Thresholds are over 2 cm high.
Toilet: Meijeri has 4 toilets: there are 2 toilets in the entrance hallway, one of which is accessible. In the kitchen hallway at the other end of the building, there are 2 toilets, one of which is accessible and has a baby changing table.
Main lobby and coat racks: In the entrance hallway on the left, there are coat racks at a height of 170 cm. The coat racks in the spacious lobby are at a height of 180 cm. If needed, there is a coat stand available, with the lowest hooks at a height of one metre.
Hall: The route leading into the hall through the double doors is wide. The door latch is at a height of 160 cm. The door threshold is over 2 cm high. The seats in the hall are not fixed, which makes it easier to move around in a wheelchair.
Lighting: Meijeri has good general lighting for people with impaired vision.
Hearing loop: The hearing loop system is not in use. The entrance is hard to perceive but illuminated

Route to the building: The distance from the accessible parking spaces to the ramp at the southwest end of Taidetalo is well over 10 metres. The route is partially sloping. In the middle of the yard, there is a 10 m2 rocky area with plants.
Entrance: There are 2 steps and a threshold at the main door. There are 4 stairs behind the main door. Wheelchair users can enter the building via the ramp at the end of the building. There are handrails on both sides of the ramp, and a narrow landing by the entrance, which has two sets of double doors. The door latches are at floor level and at a height of over 200 cm.
Toilet: The two toilets in Taidetalo are not accessible. The toilet next to the main door is small, while the toilet next to the kitchen is spacious but not accessible.
Lobby and coat racks: The front door at the end of the building leads to a narrow hallway with coat racks at a height of 130 cm. The hallway then turns left into a slightly wider lobby. The lighting in both the hallway and the lobby is insufficient for people with impaired vision.
Hall and workshop spaces: In Taidetalo, there are high thresholds between rooms (well over 2 cm). In the two workshop spaces, there are wheeled tables but limited free space.
Hearing loop: Taidetalo does not have a hearing loop system for the hearing impaired.
The Galleria exhibition space at the northeast end of Taidetalo has its own entrance. The route to the entrance is sloping and uneven. There is a flat area and a low threshold at the entrance of Galleria. For wheelchair access, both doors must be opened. The latches are at ground level and at a height of over 180 cm.

Route to the building: The distance from the accessible parking spaces to Tilanhoitajantalo is over 10 metres. The route is flat. When entering the yard via the corner gate, the route is partially sloping.
Entrance: There is no accessible entrance to Tilanhoitajantalo. There are wooden steps leading to an entrance on both sides of the building. The steps may be slippery in winter. There are high thresholds between rooms (3–8 cm). A wooden spiral staircase leads to the second floor of the building.
Lighting: The lighting outside the front doors and inside the building is insufficient for people with impaired vision.
