Urgent and emergency care
During the opening hours of health centres, you can receive help from your own health centre. Please always call us first before you go to the health centre. We are open Mon–Fri at 8–16. The Medical Helpline is there for you when the health centres are closed. Please always call the helpline first on 116 117 before you go to the emergency clinic. In life-threatening situations, always call the emergency number 112.

f you need urgent care, we ask you to call us (tel. +358 9 81634500) immediately after 7:00 in the morning, as this is when we book emergency appointments. If you need urgent care and our staff do not call you back during the morning, you can visit your local health centre to have your need for treatment assessed.
The recording will ask you to choose your health centre. A nurse will assess your symptoms and need for treatment over the phone and, if necessary, book an appointment for you. When booking an appointment, tell us if you have any special needs that we should take into consideration when planning your care. Such needs include using a wheelchair or having fears related to medical care. This allows us to serve you in the best possible way. You can also assess your symptoms at omaolo.fi(external link).

The Omaolo symptom checkers help you assess what kind of treatment you should seek, when you should seek it, and how you can treat your symptoms. The service is based on scientific data such as the Current Care Guidelines. Espoo uses the following symptom checkers:

- Symptom checker for urinary tract infection(external link) The service will give you advice on how to treat a urinary tract infection. In some cases, a prescription for antibiotics may be sent directly to the pharmacies’ information system. If necessary, the service will instruct you to contact your health centre. Sending your answers to a health care professional requires strong identification (online banking codes or mobile ID).
- Symptom checker foreye problems(external link) You can use the symptom checker if you have eye discharge or if your eyes are watery or itchy.
- Symptom checker for lower back pain or injury(external link) The symptom checker will help you if you have prolonged and/or abnormal pain in your lower back or if the pain radiates to your leg.
- Symptom checker for suspected sexually transmitted disease(external link) Use this symptom checker if you suspect you may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease.
The medical helpline 116117
The Medical Helpline is there for you when the health centres are closed. Please always call the helpline first on 116 117 before you go to the emergency clinic. The Medical Helpline will tell you where to go to get the right treatment. It also provides advice on sudden health problems when your health centre is closed.
