Niittymaa housing unit

The Niittymaa housing unit is an intensified sheltered housing unit for Espoo residents with severe disabilities. The unit is located in a normal apartment building and includes 12 apartments. The housing unit is intended for persons with severe disabilities whose functional capacity is limited in several areas of life. To ensure safety, all residents must be able to express their wishes, call for help if necessary and spend time alone in their own apartments. The service is not suitable for individuals who need constant supervision or constant medical care. Clients are referred to the unit based on a service needs assessment by the social work unit of Disability Services and an assessment by the SAS working group (selvitä, arvioi, sijoita = investigate, assess and place). The residents conclude a tenancy agreement with Espoon Asunnot and are responsible for their own apartments, any related costs and personal expenses. In addition, an upkeep fee and home service meal fees may be charged from the residents.  The apartments are equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system, and the residents have a nurse call system that they can use to call for help around the clock if necessary. The unit includes a shared space for residents, a storage space for assistive devices, a sauna and a laundry room. Each resident is responsible for their own meal arrangements. Alternatively, they can order meals through the home service. The residents participate in daily activities depending on their functional capacity.
