English-language education
English-language education in grades 1–9 is arranged in the joint comprehensive school Espoo International. The school operates in two locations: Opinmäki campus (address: Lillhemtintie 1, grades 1-9) and Kivimies (address: Lämpömiehenkuja 2-3, grades 1-2).
Pupils admitted to these forms of education are not entitled to school transport subsidy. The pupil's younger sister or brother does not have a sibling basis to be selected in the same school when applying to a local school.
1st grade (school year 2022-2023)
Date of the entrance examination will be announced end of the year 2021.
7th grade (school year 2022-2023)
Date of the entrance examination will be announced end of the year 2021.
Pupils who have attended English-language education in Espoo International School in the 6th grade do not have to apply for English-language education in their own school in grades 7–9 or participate in the entrance examination.
Other grades (school year 2022-2023)
Date of the entrance examination will be announced end of the year 2021.
Pupils moving to Espoo during school year
If places become available in grades 1–9 in the middle of the school year, a pupil who has recently moved to Espoo can be admitted based on an entrance examination (English language examination).

Application period has ended. Applications submitted after the application period are rejected and the applicants will not be given a right to participate in the entrance examination.
Enrolling in the 1st grade of comprehensive school and applying for English-language education takes place between 8 and 20 January 2021 through the electronic Wilma(extrernal link) service by filling in the form 'Application for 1st grade of Comprehensive School'. If You are unable to use the Wilma service, You can fill in the paper form.
7th grade (school year 2021-2022)
Application period has ended. Applications submitted after the application period are rejected and the applicants will not be given a right to participate in the entrance examination.
Enrolling in the 7th grade and applying for English-language education takes place between January 8th and 18th 2021 through the electronic Wilma(extrernal link) service by filling in the form 'Application for 7th Grade of Comprehensive school'. If You are unable to use the Wilma service, You can fill in the paper form. The paper form must be submitted to Your child's current school in Espoo by 18 January 2021. Applications submitted after the application period are rejected and the applicants will not be given a right to participate in the entrance examination.
Please note! Pupils who have attended English-language education in Espoo International School in the 6th grade do not have to apply for English-language education in their own school in grades 7–9 or participate in the entrance examination.
Other grades
If study places become available during the school year, and they aren't filled by pupils moving to Espoo in the middle of the school year, new pupils can be admitted to the free study places based on the entrance examination. Application period has closed on 31 March 2021.

Briefing
Due to COVID-19 Espoo International School will arrange a briefing for guardians via TEAMS. The date and link to the TEAMS-meating will be available at Espoo International School's(extrernal link) website.
1st grade (school year 2021-2022)
Pupils are admitted to first grade based on an entrance examination held in the spring. The entrance examination consists of two sections:
- English examination (0–30 points).
- Test of linguistic capabilities (0–45 points) in either Finnish or English, according to the parent’s/guardian’s choice.
In order to be admitted to English-language education, an applicant must achieve the minimum score for each section and the minimum total score of the entrance examination. Pupils are admitted in the order of their total score in the entrance examination (0–75 points). If two or more applicants have the same total score, their order will be determined by drawing lots.
7th grade (school year 2021-2022)
If places are available after pupils who have been admitted to English-language education and are continuing to the seventh grade have been admitted, new pupils will be admitted based on an entrance examination held in the spring.
In order to be admitted to English-language education, an applicant must achieve the minimum total score of the entrance examination. Pupils are admitted in the order of their total score (0–100 points). If two or more applicants have the same total score, their order will be determined by drawing lots.
Other grades (school year 2021-2022)
Pupils are admitted to other grades based on an entrance examination held in the spring. When applying to any grade, an applicant must achieve the minimum total score of the entrance examination in order to be admitted to English-language education. Pupils are admitted based on the order of their total score in the entrance examination. If two or more applicants have the same total score, their order will be determined by drawing lots.
Pupils moving to Espoo during school year
When applying to any grade, an applicant must achieve the minimum total score of the entrance examination in order to be admitted to English-language education. A pupil admitted to English-language education must start school within one week of receiving the admission decision or the decision expires. School holidays are an exception to this requirement.
Principles of pupil admission
Bilingual education (Finnish-English)
Bilingual education is meant for Finnish-speaking pupils living in Espoo. It is possible to apply to the education from all Espoo areas.
1st grade (school year 2021-2022)
3-4 February, 2021. All applicants will receive a personal invitation to the examination.
7th grade (school year 2021-2022)
26 January 2021 at 9:00 am at Nöykkiö School (address: Nöykkiönlaaksontie 3). The applicants must arrive at the school by 8:45 am at the latest. Applicants will not receive personal invitations to the examination.
If an applicant also applies for English-language education as a second choise, the examination exam must be taken at Espoo International School (address: Lillhemtintie 1).
If Your child is attending bilingual education in joint comprehensive school (Kilonpuisto school, Kuitinmäki school) in the 6th grade, he/she will transfer to the 7th grade and continue in bilingual education without applying separately or participating in the entrance examination.

Pupils who have attended bilingual education in the 6th grade (school year 2021-2022)
If Your child is attending bilingual education in joint comprehensive school (Kilonpuisto school, Kuitinmäki school) in the 6th grade, he/she will transfer to the 7th grade and continue in bilingual education without applying separately or participating in the entrance examination. If Your child is attending bilingual education in Jalavapuisto school or Niittykumpu school, You must fill in the form 'Application for 7th Grade of Comprehensive school'. In order to continue in bilingual education in the 7th grade, You must select all schools providing bilingual education in order of preference. Your child does not have to participate in the entrance examination.
