Recreational activities on the Espoo Hobby Path
Take a moment to explore what the Espoo Hobby Path offers for all 3rd-9th graders in Espoo. When you find an activity that interests you, see more detailed instructions on how to enrol in the hobby group’s additional information. If you have any questions, please contact the organiser of the activity. The offering will be supplemented during the August 2022.
Recreational activities at schools
The free hobby groups of Espoo Hobby Path are offered in almost every elementary school in Espoo. Look below what your school has to offer.
Film and photography club
Come and learn about photography techniques and making short films! You will learn how to use a smartphone for photography and learn new photography techniques. You will also strengthen your media skills. The content is modified according to the participants’ commitment and interests. We begin with technique exercises and gradually move on to photography projects.
To participate in the hobby, you will need your smartphone, if you have one. There are a few spare phones available.

Hiking in nature
Come and get to know the animals, birds, plants and insects and marvel at the changes in nature during different seasons. In the nature hobby, you get to experience nature and explore the nearby nature through joint activities. Hiking is fun and at the same time you can learn all kinds of things about our beautiful environment.
For the hobby, you need a happy mindset and weather-appropriate outdoor gear.

Kodarit
In the Kodarit group, you will go through the basic concepts of programming and game design in visual programming environments and in the Python programming language. You get to solve programming problems in the Code.org learning environment, program 2D games with Scratch and learn how to program devices using Micro:bit microcontrollers.

In the group, you will practise the basic techniques of parkour and safe ways of moving, which develop body coordination in a diverse way. Among other things, you will learn different ways of going over and under obstacles, balancing, controlled landing, jumps, bounces, using your hands and combining different movements to create an uninterrupted movement. Your body will become stronger and your mobility will increase!

Monster and treasure hunt
In this hobby, you get to go outdoors and hunt Pokémon. You will conquer the pokéstops of the neighbourhood and take part in raids together with other participants. You will also get to explore nearby geocaches and learn to navigate the terrain using a map. The most exciting Pokémon are out during bad weather, so in this group, you will be outdoors regardless of weather.
You will need clothes and footwear suitable for being outdoors to participate in this hobby. You can use your own smartphone, but it is not mandatory.

In the art workshop, you can do experiments and use your imagination to make art. You get to make crafts, paint and combine different materials and explore the world of colours under the guidance of an instructor. In the sport experiment group, you get to try out different kinds of sports and find the right kind of sport and hobby for you. The sport experiment group is a low-threshold group, so no previous experience of team sports is required. The group is particularly suitable for 3rd-6th graders.

Join a goal-oriented sports group, where you can develop your physique. You can do muscle exercises using your own body weight and increase your overall physique with various running exercises. In yoga, you will do yoga exercises that strengthen and gently open up the body as well as calming and relaxing exercises. Use the yoga mat to improve your posture, strength, flexibility and balance as well as the ability to focus and relax. Your muscles will become stronger and more flexible, and your mind will become calmer. You can participate in yoga without the pressure of performing or of what you should be like.

Theatre and literary art club
In the group, you will dive into the world of stories and poetry. Playful exercises help you to dive deeper into familiar stories and create your own stories, texts, rhymes and poems. You get to practise performing different kinds of texts in a group and on your own. The exercises also strengthen your use of voice and expressiveness.

In bodyweight training, you will do interval-type bodyweight exercises against time, where your heart rate will vary and your oxygen uptake will develop. Exercising is fun and inspiring and develops the strength and muscle endurance of your entire body as well as movement management and balance. The range of movements takes into account the starting level of each participant, and there are alternatives for everyone. Come and break a sweat and feel the burn!

In the circus parkour group, you can move in a variety of ways on courses that change, practise tricks with different types of circus equipment and combine circus and parkour creatively. You will get familiar with different types of circus equipment and the basic techniques of parkour. We can also prepare performances together. In the English-language group, you will learn English through games and playing. FriigymParkour
In Friigym classes, you get to practise flips, parkour, street workout, acrobatics and tricks. You will also get to develop your skills in good company and while encouraging others. You can join us without any previous experience. During the classes, we progress from easy moves to more difficult ones according to the group’s skill level and the wishes of the participants.

Mediahobby
In the Media hobbygroup, you will learn to create your own content, practice storytelling and work as part of a group in various media projects. Collage Club
In the collage club, you will learn to use different collage techniques creatively and on your own terms. You get to make crafts, paint, cut and tear paper as well as use different types of adhesive materials to create pieces of collage art or “junk books”. During the spring term, you will learn how to make digital collages and use stop-motion animation technology using which you can make objects move in films.

In the comic book group, you will learn the basics of reading, designing, drawing and finishing comic books. Kolam Club - Fascinating figures
In this hobby group you will learn ancient Indian art form, ‘Kolam’. Kolam is a combination of mathematics and art. It is about drawing geometrical lines composed of straight lines, curves and loops around a grid pattern of dots. You will learn to draw different designs; art patterns and you will develop the abilities to create your own designs. Kolam helps you develop your computational abilities along with geometrical patterns in a fun way of learning.
The club will mainly be conducted in English language. Basic English is enough to follow the club instructions. The instructor can communicate in Finnish language as well, if needed.

Visual Arts Workshop for 3rd–6th graders
In the visual arts workshop, you get to draw, paint, build and mould using diverse materials. You will practise technical skills, but also learn creative expression as well as using your imagination. We focus on the joy of learning and discovering while doing, an encouraging and fair atmosphere and teamwork skills. The workshop is suitable for everyone interested in the visual arts.

In the school of circus tricks, you get to play games and play, practise the basic techniques of different circus activities and prepare a performance together with the group for the end of the academic year. Esports Education gaming coaching
In the Esports hobby group, you will get familiar with the world of e-sports and learn how gaming can enrich your life. You will learn to create a balance between gaming, diverse hobbies, family relationships and other social relationships, going to school and adequate rest and nutrition.

Recreational activities at libraries
During the makerspace afternoons, you can familiarise yourself with the equipment of the makerspace, try things out and create something new. The content of the makerspace afternoons is also structured according to the wishes of children and young people. The event is always attended by a familiar employee from the children and young people’s section.

Hobbies in the Youth centres
Farming simulator
In this club you will not hear shooting of the guns or wait for zombies lurking around the corner. Instead you will hear the murmur of the growing crops, rumbling of the tractors and mooing of the cows. In the Sogland's test farm the gamers will immerse themselves in farming.
The gamers learn geography, chemistry, biology, economy and decisionmaking. Unlike in the Finnish Hayday game, in Faming simulator the goal is to simulate the real-life activities on the farm as accurately as possible. The economic trends affect the crops price, tractors break, acquisitions must be considered carefully.

The organiser of the hobby group contacts the guardians about the practical aspects of the activity. The organiser of the activity will provide information on the enrolment situation of the groups. Please contact the organiser of the activity if you want to cancel your child’s participation or ask more about the activity.
