Renovation of the Alberganesplanadi park

ParksLeppävaara

The renovation plan for the cherry tree area in Alberganesplanadi park has been completed. The pin cherry trees in the park have reached the end of their life cycle. The old trees will be removed, and new white- and pink-flowering cherry trees will be planted in the area. The project will start in the autumn of 2023 and is set to be completed in the summer of 2024.

Residents had their say

At the beginning of the park planning project, in the autumn of 2021, we asked residents for their views on the project and arranged a walking tour of the park and an online event. A summary of the feedback (only available in Finnish) can be found at the bottom of this page.

In the spring of 2022, residents were able to send comments through the otakantaa.fi website(external link, opens in a new window). On the website, residents commented on the draft plan and gave their opinion on whether the park project should be carried out in one or two phases (one half at a time). A clear majority supported the single-phase alternative, as this would ensure a uniform look, shorten the duration of the disturbance caused by construction, and be more cost-effective.

Entire cherry tree area to be replanted

The renovation of the park is scheduled to start in the autumn of 2023. First, the old trees will be cut down. New trees will be planted in the spring of 2024, which will give the cherry trees an optimal start. This is why the project will last into next year. The goal is to have the park ready in the summer of 2024.

The completed renovation plan and project description (in Finnish only) for the northern part of the Alberganesplanadi park can be found at the bottom of this page.

The park areas that will be affected by the Jokeri Light Rail were already constructed in 2022.
