Itätuulenkuja

The eastern and western part of Itätuulenkuja (7232/003, 004 and 005) are linked to the previously planned and approved street plan for the central part of Itätuulenkuja (7323/001 and 002).

At the eastern end (7323/004), the street’s location will be moved northeast and a new pedestrian and bicycle ramp is planned to the deck level. A separated pedestrian and bicycle route is planned on the street level of the southern side of Itätuulenkuja and a narrow walkway on the northern side. A pedestrian access has been left to the direction of the park on the street level at the eastern end.

A separated pedestrian and bicycle route is planned on the street level at the western end (7323/003 and 005) and the existing pedestrian and bicycle ramp up to the deck level will be renovated. A new access to the deck level will be formed from the western part of the city centre, down from the Neljäntuulensilta bridge to the deck level of Itätuulenkuja. Vegetation in plating boxes is planned for the deck level.

Itätuulenkuja is an existing two-level access street. Traffic on the street is mainly resident and maintenance traffic as well as traffic to and from the Tuulimäki sports facilities and pick-up and drop-off traffic at the bus terminal.

A narrow walkway is planned along the northern side of the roadway and a wide separated pedestrian and bicycle road is planned for the southern side. There is a wide pedestrian crossing at Helmakuja, which serves as an access to the bus terminal and the metro station as well as pick-up and drop-off traffic.

There are parking spaces, a stair access and a new walkway at the southern branch of Itätuulenkuja.

The deck level serves residents and visitors to the city centre. The street level has a bicycle access that runs in the east-west direction and bypasses Tapiola centre and also provides access to the upcoming Helmakuja bicycle parking.

The existing water supply, telecommunications and energy network lines run at street level. Deck level drainage is carried out with storm water gutters.

Vegetation will be placed in planting boxes on the deck level of Itätuulenkatu to create greenery in the street space. The deck level of Itätuulenkatu will be implemented as a high-quality street space resembling a square.

The street level of Itätuulenkatu will be illuminated with lines of lampposts placed on the walkways. The deck level will be illuminated with park lampposts in accordance with Tapiola’s design manual.

The street will be constructed after the building construction projects starting from 2024.
