Omatila – support unit for people experiencing domestic and intimate partner violence

Omatila offers support and protection to Espoo residents who have experienced or been threatened with domestic or intimate partner violence. We also help women who use violence in their close relationships.

Our staff will help you recognise the signs of domestic or intimate partner violence, overcome your past experiences and break away from violence.

  • We will assess your situation and, if necessary, prepare a safety plan.
  • We will give you advice on legal and social security issues.
  • We will organise a network meeting to clarify your situation.
  • We will contact different authorities together with you.
  • We will make sure that you get the support you need.

You can discuss your experiences of violence with our staff to overcome the situation. We can organise 1–15 sessions. We will agree on the number of sessions and the goals of our discussions together with you. We will always take your wishes and needs into consideration.

Omatila supports everyone who has experienced domestic or intimate partner violence (regardless of gender) as well as Espoo-based women who use violence in their close relationships.

We have groups for people of different ages to support their well-being. Please let us know if you would like to join a specific type of group.


If necessary, we will offer you the possibility to stay in a shelter to break the cycle of violence. Shelter services are available around the clock.

While staying in a shelter, you will be offered counselling, advice and other support you may need. We will work closely with you and help you access the necessary services. If there are children in your family, we will also actively work with them. Our collaboration will continue, if necessary, after you have left the shelter.

There is also a shelter in Espoo called Pellas(extrernal link), which is open around the clock.

Seri Support Center for victims of sexual assault

The Seri Support Center is a support unit for over 16-year-olds, regardless of gender, who have experienced sexual violence. The unit offers a low-threshold service, and you can contact the unit yourself, with relatives or under the guidance of a public authority. Reporting the offence to the police is not required, but it is encouraged. Go to the HUS Seri Support Center webpage(extrernal link).

Under 16-year-olds are treated at the paediatric emergency department of the New Children’s Hospital (extrernal link)and Jorvi Hospital(extrernal link).

Miehen Linja(extrernal link) helps men who use intimate partner violence.

Omatila, a support unit for people who have experienced domestic and intimate partner violence, operates under Adult Social Services. The unit’s staff includes four social counsellors and a senior social worker.
